When I first started writing professionally, I never dreamed that I’d be sitting here having completed as many books as I have. Working on them has led to some incredibly challenging yet fabulously rewarding experiences. Check out some of my featured titles below.
STILL STANDING - A Memoir
Raw Emotion. Life or Death. Truthfully Delivered.
Vicki was 28 when her neat world crumbled. Her moral compass--beloved Gramps--died suddenly, leaving Vicki depressed and insecure. Despite a series of poor choices in men and life, by 24, Vicki had built a career as a noted crime reporter, wife, and mother.
But success led to disaster. Vicki's perfect world crumbled with bitter family upheaval, leading to multiple suicide attempts. Now 38, Vicki lays her soul bare and shares the pivotal moments of her roller-coaster life: depression, grief, heartache, trauma, drugging, and suicide, truthfully, and candidly.
Her story is heartbreaking, inspiring, and unexpectedly witty.
Most of all, "Still Standing" is a remarkable story of resilience and survival --an honest portrayal of one woman's life and her determination for a new beginning.
★★★★★ - 'Heartbreaking but inspiring,' Louise Chapman
"If you're in search of personal stories about mental health, depression, and strength, this memoir has got you covered--and then some. The surprising everyday anecdotes the co-author has lived sets this memoir apart. A remarkable collaboration." Independent Book Review
"A honest emotional journey which will resonate with a lot of people who have had a similar path. No matter how hard things got she kept going. Success in her own right and may have caused a lot of jealousy which put her in a bad place. There are a lot of cruel people who would see you lose rather than achieve. Well worth reading."
★★★★★ - Anne Foster. Lovely.
I'm usually not a non-fiction/memoir fan, but I'd really enjoyed Fitzgerald's novel, Briguella so I hoped I'd like this one. And it took my breath away! As the title suggests, she's dealt with so many struggles in her life and managed to come out on the other side after multiple suicide attempts and more heartbreak than you'd think one woman could endure. In fact if this were fiction, you'd be telling yourself it was too unbelievable! But it's not. It's raw, it's visceral, and she bares her soul without placing blame on others as she reveals her vulnerability and poor choices in seeking love and compassion. Spanning thirty some years, from an idyllic childhood to her marriage, children, betrayals, depression, and divorce, Fitzgerald learns that there are lessons in even the smallest missteps, and there is still beauty in life after what seems to be the bleakest of times. It's really just heartbreakingly lovely and you will cheer for her as she fights the good fight to persevere and chase happiness!
★★★★ Sue - Pulled in from page one
I enjoyed this autobiography, which sounds like the wrong thing to say considering its subject. The story is emotional and raw and I hurt reading it. I could feel the heaviness from the first page and knew it was going to be emotional; I was teary-eyed on the first page, which is always a sure sign. What made it more difficult to read is that this isn’t fiction it’s real life.
